Celebrating 50 Years of Providing Quality Healthcare
A 50 Year History-The Woman’s Clinic
Fifty years ago, The Woman’s Clinic of Monroe was established by Dr. Richard Vines and Dr. Ed Brown. Dr. Vines and Dr. Brown began practicing together in 1961 and were a part of a group of doctors that purchased an office building in the early 1960’s at the corner of Catalpa and Jackson Street. In the late 1960’s, the clinic began to grow and formally incorporated to become The Woman’s Clinic, Inc.
Dr. James Wolff joined the clinic in 1970 and contributed significantly to the success of the corporation. The Physicians and Surgeons Medical Complex is named in his honor. The clinic continued to flourish and attracted Dr. Ronald Shemwell. This team of hardworking physicians grew a fast growing obstetrics/gynecology practice.
Over the past fifty years, The Woman’s Clinic has grown to become the premier provider of obstetrics/gynecology in Northeast Louisiana. There are now 13 board certified physician partners: Dr. P.R. Hall, Dr. D.H. Clark, Dr. William Belsom, Dr. David Bryan, Dr. Gwenn Jackson, Dr. Adrienne Williams, Dr. Terry Tugwell, Dr. Won Lee, Dr. Dawn Pennebaker, Dr. Jason Wilson, Dr. Tonya Sheppard, Dr. Amber Salas, and Dr. Laurie Lebleu. Dr. Sara Klug will be joining the clinic in July 2011. There are two Women's Health Nurse Practitioners (Sherry Peveto, WHNP, and Christie Walters, WHNP).
The Woman’s Clinic has had two business managers in it’s 50 year history, Mr. Jim Goldman and Mr. Jerry Barnes, CPA. The Woman's Clinic employs over 100 employees across five locations (downtown Monroe, North Monroe, West Monroe, Ruston and at a Healthy Moms Prenatal Clinic). Services continue to be expanded as the clinic provides “Total Care for Today’s Woman". These services include a Lipid Clinic, Vein Clinic, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Dr. Katherine Wilson), Interstitial Cystitis Clinic, Dexa Scans, Ultrasounds, and 4D Ultrasounds.
The Woman’s Clinic Family is excited to celebrate this longstanding icon of Northeast Louisiana - a clinic that has provided 50 years of quality healthcare for women. The clinic philosophy is to serve always with a kind heart and caring spirit. The Woman’s Clinic of Monroe will stand the test of time. Here’s to fifty years and counting…
